Where the hell am I? :: stuff - watches -
Omega Speedmaster Day Date
Wow. Two Omegas in two months! I must be insane. Actually, I think I was
lucky.
I first fell for this watch over on the PMWF (of course) when founding-father
Reto had posted some new shots he had taken of some of his and this was one of
them. This was before I had acquired the Speedmaster, so of course, it had to
come first. Then one day...
Just for fun I sometimes pop in a search on eBay just to see what comes up. I
think this one was something like: "omega speed* chrono*" or something. What I
normally do is sort by those ending first to see what's closing soon (as I hate
to find things I want and have to wait, I'm impatient that way) but this time I
sorted by current price, lowest to highest. This one popped in with a starting
bid of $300 and no bids, two and a half days left. The seller had made some
comments about the condition, so I asked a few questions. I also asked if he
would be interested in conducting a transaction off of eBay.
The response back answered my questions regarding the condition. He also
stated that he would change the auction to a Buy It Now with a price of $430. I
felt this was fair, told him so, and watch and waited until it finally changed.
Done deal!
The watch did come with the box and all its papers, although it appears they
were water damaged at some point. The watch is not "mint" it is "used", no bones
about it. There are a couple dings around the bezel and the crystal is a little
cloudy in places. These are minor concerns to me, what is a larger concern is
that the tachymeter scale around the bezel seems ready to flake off. So I am
going to see what I can do as far as preventing that or replacing all together.
Bottom line: I love this Omega. It is fun to wear. Keeps time to within a
second a day, and goes with everything. No question I made the right decision
here!
