Where the hell am I? :: stuff - watches -
Seiko 6138-0011 Chronograph
I've been really watching for vintage Seiko chronos lately. They really are
great looking watches and there are a lot of varieties. This one came up and
there was no way I could pass, not at this price. The watch runs and functions
very well. The hour counter at the top of the watch does not quite reset
straight up at 12, but other than that every thing zeros out perfectly. The
tachymeter ring is in pretty good shape with some wear on the bezel side of the
watch. It even came on the original metal bracelet which I still have it on.
I need to clean it and maybe polish it up a bit, but I was wearing it right
out of the box!
Then a scary thing happened in February, the second hand just flew
off the watch. Well, it was inside, yes, but it just popped the hell off. I got
brave and opened the thing up and (against warnings from friends at the PMWF)
gently tapped the second hand back into place. It was pretty fun, to be honest.
I figured out how to open the sucker up (ok, that's easy) and get the pushers
off, then the crown and managed to get the entire movement out. Great learning
experience! However my fix did not last, so it was off to be serviced, and now I don't have that problem any more.
